Columbia University (CU) was established in 1754 by George II of Great Britain which was then known as the King's College and later in 1784 it was renamed to Columbia University. The Columbia University is a private, coeducational institution. The Columbia University comprises of twenty schools. The Columbia University is also affiliated to the Barnard College, Union theological seminary and the teacher's college and it also administers the pultizer prize.

In 1897, the Columbia University moved from forty-ninth street and madison avenue, where it had stood for fifty years to its present location on morningside heights at 116th street and broadway. Seth Low, the president of the Columbia University at the time of the move, sought to create an academic village in a more spacious setting.
